Cohiba Serie M Reserva Plata
Cohiba Serie M Reserva Plata
When General Cigar Co. debuted the Cohiba Serie M in 2021, it was the first time that a Cohiba blend had been made in the U.S. It was also the first time that General had worked with the Miami-based El Titan de Bronze, a small factory that also produces various La Palina’s Goldie line, various Warped lines and cigars for other companies. This fact is a notable contrast to most of General’s Cohiba cigars, which are produced at the company’s factory in the Dominican Republic.
Since that debut cigar, a new Cohiba Serie M has been released every year in either March or April. So, it was no great surprise when General announced the Cohiba Serie M Reserva Plata, a 6 x 52 toro vitola. Blend-wise, the newest release in the series is made with a Mexican San Andrés wrapper covering a binder grown in Estelí, Nicaragua and four filler tobaccos: Dominican piloto cubano, viso and ligero from Jalapa, Nicaragua, and a leaf from Estelí, Nicaragua.
Each cigar has an MSRP of $29.99, and production is limited to 3,000 boxes of 10 cigars.

“This is our 6th Serie M Release, and it continues to be a pleasure working with El Titan de Bronze to create a special expression each year for this line,” said Sean Williams, brand ambassador for Cohiba, in a press release. “Serie M Reserva Plata is just that… special. It marks only the second time we’ve ever used a San Andrés wrapper on any Cohiba cigar. Married with the rest of this terrific blend, Serie M Reserva Plata really delivers a deep, rich, well-balanced profile.”

Dark brown wrappers that are slightly rough to the touch cover the three Cohiba Serie M Reserva Plata cigars I am smoking for this review, and while each has about the same amount of oil present—i.e., not much—one has substantially more thick, overt veins. After a physical inspection, I find that two of the three cigars have a hard spot near their respective feet, but all three are very firm when squeezed and have no soft spots.
The combination of covered feet and pigtails on the cap is a nice visual touch, and I do love the bands’ color scheme. Aromas from the wrappers are faint and similar to each other, with slightly sour earth leading barnyard, wet mulch, generic nuttiness and some light chocolate candy sweetness. However, even with the closed feet, I can pick up slightly more distinct scents coming from the feet, including creamy leather, earth, almonds, coffee beans and a light vegetal note. After straight cuts, the cold draws bring flavors of cocoa nibs, sourdough bread, gritty earth, sawdust, baker’s spices, generic nuttiness and some light brown sugar sweetness, while the second cigar also features some distinct Ceylon cinnamon.
Bitter espresso and gritty earth start the cigars out, along with a small amount of spice on my tongue that is not strong enough to make it to my lips, at least not yet. A combination of creamy oak and powdery cocoa nibs takes over the profiles of all three cigars in short order, although the first cigar has more oak and the last two cigars have more of the cocoa nibs note. Secondary flavors include brown rice, almonds, sweet barnyard, coffee beans, cinnamon and tree bark, while the retrohales feature some obvious black pepper and brown sugar sweetness. There is a bit of mineral salinity present on my lips for the first and last cigars, but it is missing totally from the second cigar, and all three cigars have a dry hay note on the finish. The retrohales feature similar notes of light black pepper and honey sweetness, but in differing amounts: the first cigar is the sweetest by far, while the second cigar features more black pepper. Flavor is medium-full, and both the body and strength reach a solid medium by the end of the first third. Construction is excellent across the board so far, with even burn lines, plenty of dense smoke, and just the right amount of resistance on the draws.
During the second third, the amount of spice for all three cigars increases noticeably, enough that it is now present on both my lips and my tongue. While in the first and second cigars, the combination of powdery cocoa nibs and creamy oak continues to be the main flavor, the third cigar has switched things up and now features a bolder combination of coffee beans and leather. Additional flavors of gritty earth, cinnamon, generic nuttiness, sourdough bread, anise and a touch of citrus show up at various points, while the combination of black pepper and honey sweetness remains strong on the retrohale. At the start of the second third, the mineral salinity that I noted on my lips begins to dissipate and, by the time the burn line reaches the final third, it is totally gone, though the dry hay flavor is still going strong on the finish. Cohiba Serie M Reserva Plata
Flavor remains at medium-full and the body stays put at a solid medium, but the strength does increase enough to cross over into the medium-plus range, albeit barely. Around the halfway point, all three cigars need a burn correction but the draw resistance and smoke production continue to give me no issues. Cohiba Serie M Reserva Plata
The first and third Cohiba Serie M Reserva Platas continue to be topped by the familiar combination of creamy oak and cocoa nibs, but there is also some harshness that shows up on the finish of the final cigar for a short time. However, the second cigar surprises me with a new combination of mesquite and charred meat flavors that emerges a few puffs into the final third and continues through the end of the cigar. Cohiba Serie M Reserva Plata
Secondary flavors of coffee grounds, leather tack, generic nuttiness, barnyard and light citrus peel make appearances, while the honey-and-black-pepper combination on the retrohales remains unchanged. Sadly, the mineral salinity has not returned, and the finish of all three cigars continues to be dominated by a dry hay flavor. Flavor is at medium-full for the first and third cigars—the second cigar bumps up to full—the strength stays at medium-plus and the body increases enough to land at a point just over the medium mark. Final Notes
- Interestingly, this is the second review of mine in a row in which some of the cigar names include Spanish colors. However, only the last three cigars in this series have followed that pattern so far, so who knows if General will continue that trend.
- The “M” in the “Serie M” name of this series stands for Miami, a reference to the location of the factory where these cigars are made.
- As I mentioned above, the combination of covered feet and pigtails on the cap is a nice visual touch, but by the time I actually took them out of my humidor to inspect them, two of the pigtails had been knocked off my cigars. Cohiba Serie M Reserva Plata
- The construction was excellent until the start of the second third, when the burn on all three cigars needed a quick touch-up at almost the exact same spot. After that, my second and third cigars needed additional touch-ups in the final third to stay on track, but all of the corrections were fairly minor. Cohiba Serie M Reserva Plata
- This is the second Cohiba cigar to use a Mexican San Andrés wrapper; the first was the Cohiba Riviera, released in 2023.
- It was hard not to notice how much glue was used to close the tobacco on the feet of the cigars, as you can see from the photo above.

- The cigars for this review were purchased by bestcigar.
- These cigars are listed as being 6 x 52 vitolas. Above are the measurements we took when we measured them.
